Mr. Dan Howard Helms, 95, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at New Providence Baptist Church with Rev. David Chapman officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00PM. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Helms was born March 31, 1929, in Atlanta, GA, to William Leius and Cornelia Jordan Helms. He served honorably in the United States Army where he was in the Signal Corp from 1951-1952. Mr. Helms was a faithful member of New Providence Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and being outdoors – especially roaming and exploring the woods. One of his favorite pastimes was tree-farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Helms, Max Helms and infant brother, Bailey Helms. 

He is survived by his wife, Anne Helms, of Columbus, GA; by two sons, Paul Helms (Michelle) and David Helms, all of Hamilton, GA; by a daughter, Lisa Cannon (Kevin) of Salem, AL; by two sisters, Ellen Watkins of Albany, GA, and Mary Wells of Palmetto, GA; by five grandchildren, Ashley Helms, Stephanie Bierman, Christine Criscillis, Daniel Helms, and Kim McConnell; and nine great-grandchildren.
