Dan David Long, 87, of Estill, entered into rest Monday evening, January 12, 2026, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Barbara Ann Main Long to whom he was married 37 years.
Born in Furman, South Carolina, on June 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Henry Framp Long and Addie Lee DeLoach Long. After serving faithfully in the United States Air Force, he moved back to South Carolina where he worked many years for Bostick Tire. He retired from the SC Department of Corrections in June of 2000.
David is remembered by many in the community as they patroned the Longs Grocery Store in Nixville. He was a member of Nixville Baptist Church. He was one of many that helped establish the Nixville Fire Department in 1984. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 108, and the Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Southern NJ.
Surviving are: his daughters, Cheryl Eles (Laci), Debbie L. Phillips (Eddie), and Margaret Bain; sons, Mike Varnadoe and Pete Varnadoe; grandchildren, Jay Bishop, TJ Bishop (Renee), Crystal Seckinger (Jared), Toni Graves (Justin), Lindsey Moser (Evan), Ashley Barnes (Josh), Bobby Varnadoe, Jr. (Lisa), Allen Varnadoe (Mandy), and Danny Varnadoe (Melissa); brother, Clayton Long (Ellen); as well as a host of great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Jerry Varnadoe and Bobby Varnadoe; granddaughter, Jamie Varnadoe; great granddaughter, Ashton Kelly Smith; sister, Anna Lee Breland; and brothers, Francis Long, Jimmy Long, and Raymond O’Neal.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 Thursday morning, January 15, 2026, at Nixville Baptist Church, 3915 Two Sisters Ferry Road, Nixville, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:30 until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
