Dan Satterfield Obituary
Chief Warrant Officer Dan "Wood" Satterfield passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, at his home in Pecan Plantation, Granbury, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. (4:00~sharing memories) at the Pecan Plantation Country Club Ballroom, 8650 Westover Ct., Granbury, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Wood dedicated his life to service, courage, and leadership. He began his military journey as an enlisted soldier and helicopter crew chief. Recognized early for his aptitude and drive, he was encouraged by fellow soldiers to pursue flight school. After earning his wings, he returned to a unit (Task Force 160) preparing for a daring mission to rescue American hostages in Iran.
Mentored by experienced Vietnam-era pilots, Wood learned not just how to fly, but how to lead. His extraordinary skill, steady judgment, and natural command presence earned him selection into the elite 1st Special Operations Forces Detachment – Delta. He served with distinction in numerous critical operations including Urgent Fury (Grenada), Earnest Will (Persian Gulf), and Just Cause (Panama).
Following over 20 years of honorable military service, Wood continued his commitment to national service as a Department of State contractor. For a decade, he led aviation programs abroad as the in-country aviation program manager, overseeing hundreds of personnel and ensuring mission success with professionalism and resolve.
Wood was a man of strength, humor, humility, and deep loyalty-to his country, his comrades, and most of all, his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie(LG) Nelson; mother, Virginia; sister Patty and her husband Charlie; brother Rob and his wife Terrie; daughter Jessi and her husband Nate; son Hunter and his wife Megan; grandchildren Everett and Maddilyn; son Conner and his wife Katie.
Wood's legacy will endure in the lives he touched and the freedoms he helped protect. He will be remembered always with honor, gratitude, and love.
