Dan Vokt, age 77, passed away October 26, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born January 18, 1947 to the late Henry and Violet (Jenkins) Vokt in Atlantic, IA. The family later moved to Council Bluffs, IA. Dan lived a life full of adventure, creativity, and love. A native of Council Bluffs, Dan dedicated his life to education and the arts. He began his career as an art teacher in Shenandoah, IA, where he taught for seven years before moving to Belgrade, Montana in 1976. There, he spent 32 years teaching art at Belgrade High School, inspiring countless students with his love of art. In addition to teaching, Dan served as a team host and usher at Montana State University.
An accomplished artist in his own right, Dan was known for his talent and dedication to the craft. He was also a devoted coach, leading the high school cross country team and instilling a love for fitness in his students and always eager to encourage young athletes.
Dan had a wide array of interests; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed camping, and was a marathon runner. He found joy in spelunking and cross-country skiing, and he was a passionate fan of the Nebraska Huskers, always cheering for his team with enthusiasm.
Dan will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy will live on through those he inspired and loved.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Susanne, and their loyal dog, Bella. He leaves behind his son Eric and wife Julie, along with his children Ian, Brenna, and Colin; his son Adam and daughter Kimberly; and his daughter Elise, her fiancé Michael, and their daughter Lila Santos. He is also survived by his brothers Richard and wife Sylvia, and Dennis and wife Rose, as well as his mother-in-law Maria Gibson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 p.m on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at The Warehouse Event Venue (1414 W. Broadway, Council Bluffs, IA).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Susanne, who will distribute them to Dan's favorite charities.
