Daniel "Dan" Askey

Dan Askey left this world surrounded by his family, on March 12, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Blair and Helen Askey, who pre-deceased him. He was also pre-deceased by his sister and brother in law, Patti and Joe Mazzarella.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Eileen, along with his son Blair, favorite daughter-in-law Kelly (inside joke) and his granddaughter and best joke teller buddy Helen. In addition he is survived by his very special nieces Vicki (Rob) Cicero and Trini (Nick) Kuzmicki, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Dan spent 30 years working at SUNY Brockport as an EOP Counselor. He touched the lives of many students and was so proud of each one. Seeing a student overcome adversity and succeed in life was one of the things he loved about being a counselor. And of course, they all knew how to practice safe socks! (Another inside joke passed from year to year!)

If you had the opportunity to know Dan, you knew he loved his trains, old movies and tv shows, cartoons, playing poker with his friends, and his students. He went on multiple cruises with Eileen after retiring from SUNY Brockport and was thrilled to ride the train in the mountains in Skagway, Alaska, twice! But most of all he loved his family and he is sorely missed.

Special thanks to the Cardiac Clinic, Cardiac Care Unit, and CICU teams at Strong Memorial Hospital along with all of his providers over his last years who kept him with us, and allowed us to make memories with him. You are all very special angels.

At Dan's request there will not be a wake or funeral. A celebration of life will be planned at the convenience of the family.
