Daniel L. Baboi

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Leon Baboi, 65, who passed on June 10, 2024. Daniel was a lifetime resident of Ashtabula County born on February 17, 1959 the son of Leon Baboi and Katherine (Cibella) Baboi of Geneva. As a family we hoped Dan would be with us for a much longer time after he received a kidney donation in October of 2023. We never anticipated this would be his final moment.
Dan devoted his life to family. He wasn't always an expressive man, but he was forever proud of the people he helped raise, teach and care for. He had a passion for fine craftsmanship, delectable cuisine as well as Italian herbs.
On October 16, 1982 he married Theresa Mason, and she became a dedicated, ever-loving wife who continues to bake the best pies. They made a wonderful family for themselves that loves deeply, cares immensely, and looks to be the change they wish to see in the world. It is a culture Dan cultivated in his own family and a legacy he will leave. Their children Stephen Baboi and Deanna Reed (Baboi) grew up to be the adventurers Dan wished he could be. When they both moved out West, Dan's favorite pastime became dreaming of places to visit and participating in the Portland food scene. He was the toughest food critic.
We will forever treasure his quickness to lend advice and tell stories. We will miss the snort of his laugh when something was a little less politically correct. The advice he gave will be cherished as will the memories we have made as a family: taking the back roads, Florida drives and reading every billboard along the way, learning to drive on dirt roads and trips to Geneva-on-the-Lake. Dan was always eager to teach us something practical and to keep life interesting. He loved doing something original to get a jovial laugh out of the group. He was a wonderful father, and he saved a whole world for someone else through his choice to be an organ donor.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio. Calling hours will be held from 11:00-1:00 with the funeral starting at 1:00. He will be laid to rest in Dorset Cemetery.
