Daniel Francis Brosnan, Jr. was born on June 25, 1942 to Ann (McMahon) and Daniel Brosnan and passed away on August 20, 2024 at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of 58 years to Mary Ann Brosnan (Campbell); loving and proud father to his son, Dan and his wife Debbie (Basta) Brosnan of Arlington; his daughter Ann and her husband Paul Wohlford of Panama City Beach, FL; his son Tom and his wife Heidi (Strachan) Brosnan of Burlington, MA; his daughter Amy and her husband Chris Carlson of Arlington; his daughter Kate and her husband Dan Mederos of Nashua, NH and his daughter Gail and her husband Mike Lynch of Medford, MA. Dear brother of Mary Cheevers of Arlington, MA and Paul Brosnan and his wife Cynthia of Morehead City, NC and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his sister Carol Crocker, her husband Charlie, and his brother-in-law Fred Cheevers.
Adored grandfather of sixteen grandchildren, Kelly, Jake, and Annie Brosnan of Arlington; Paul, Alex, and Bethany Wohlford of Panama City Beach FL; T.J., Jack, Mikey, and Katelynn Brosnan of Burlington; Chris and Ryan Carlson of Arlington; Marianne, Nolan, Isabel, and Liam Mederos of Nashua, NH.
Dan was born in Arlington and was a lifelong resident who served the youth of Arlington for his entire career. He graduated from Matignon High School, and earned his bachelor's degree at Boston University and a master's degree at Northeastern University. Dan began his career as Program Director at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club and then moved to the Arlington Recreation and soon became Director, initiating many new programs to serve the youth of the community over the course of his twenty years. He hired leaders for each playground in town to give youths a safe place to gather. He was known as "Mr. B" to countless playground leaders, coworkers, staff, and children. Dan later returned to the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, serving as their Executive Director for another 20 years. At the Club he started the Christmas tree sale, which has been the Club's largest fundraiser for over 50 years. Dan also initiated many other programs, providing kids with a safe haven after school. He also ensured Club families in need received all the necessary services.
Dan loved hosting his large family on Sundays and special occasions. He enjoyed spending time playing games with his grandchildren and watching their sports and other activities. He grew up as an athlete, playing high school football and baseball and remained an avid sports fan throughout his entire life. Dan always had a twinkle in his eye to go along with his wonderful sense of humor.
Dan was a man of strong faith. He was a great listener and provided so much joy and laughter. He will be carried in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be on Sunday August 25th, from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. Camillus Church, 1185 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Camillus Church, 1185 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476 on Monday August 26th, at 11:30 a.m.
Services will conclude with his burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Family and friends are invited to a reception following services at Café Escadrille, 26 Cambridge St. in Burlington, MA.

Dan Brosnan made a major contribution to the youth of Arlington, and his leadership made the Arlington Boys Club a great organization.

He was also one of the most positive, kind and compassionate people I ever met.

Thanks for everything you did for the youth of Arlington, Ma Dan.

God Bless Dan and the Brosnan Family.

Mr. Brosnan was so good to my parents and my entire family. He touched so many lives and my family is grateful to have had him watching over all 6 of us. He had a huge impact on my brothers and my life. To the Brosnan family, thank you for sharing him with us. We love you and are praying for you all.

Both my wife, Paula, and I worked for Dan as Playground Leaders at Parallel Park and Summer Street Playgrounds in the 60´s. Dan kept me busy throughout my college years and after with a variety of different jobs within the Arlington Recreation Department, even filling in as secretary when they needed one. Dan was such a generous man who spend his life leading and teaching young people how to be successful in their future lives.

My memories of Mr. Brosnan include visiting in the summer years ago when Ann would return home with her kids ...and attending Katie's wedding! The joy and pride in his family was ever present- his even temperament-he didn't seem to rattle easily! I also loved his wonderfully warm and calming smile. Xoxo Margaret
