Daniel Butler

1948 - 2026

Daniel Maynard Butler, 77, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Washington Medical Center.

Born June 12, 1948, in Frederick County, Maryland, Daniel was the son of the late James Franklin Butler and Betty Catherine Baumgardner.

Daniel served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was honorably discharged. After being wounded overseas, Daniel received the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.

Following his military service, Daniel dedicated 35 years to Frederick City and Frederick County as a Water Treatment Plant Operator. He retired at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to his community.

Daniel found his greatest joy being outdoors. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he was especially known for his love of carp fishing-and for his closely guarded secret carp dough recipe. He spent countless hours along the riverbanks of Frederick County and walking miles of the towpath, places where he felt most at home. He cherished hunting trips to Heaters Island and Pennsylvania with friends and family and loved sharing stories from those adventures. When not outdoors, Daniel enjoyed adding to his treasured collection of vintage fishing licenses, reels, and rods. He was also a loyal fan of the Baltimore Ravens.

Daniel is survived by his brothers, Wayne E. Butler and wife Bonnie and Craig A. Butler Sr. and wife Deborah of Frederick, Maryland, and his sister, Annette Porter of Knoxville. Though Daniel never had children of his own, he dearly loved his nieces-Tara, Kelly, Amy, Jamie, and Kimberly-and his nephew, Craig Jr.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his sister, Susan G. Ball. Daniel will be remembered for his quiet strength, love of nature, devotion to family, and the simple joys he found outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the Keeney and Basford funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11am, on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Daniel Butler
