Daniel Cain Obituary

Anacortes, WA - Dan Cain was born in Mount Vernon on May 18 and left us on March 14. He was a lifelong resident of Skagit Valley, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1967, and earned honors from Western Washington University in 1976.

In 1974, he met Carol, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, children, grandchildren, dear friends, and meaningful careers. Dan loved his family, his friends, and Skagit Valley.

He served as Skagit County Fire Marshal and Director of Emergency Management. He cared deeply about helping others and keeping people safe. He was a former member of the Red Cross and the Rotary Club of La Conner.

Above all, Dan was the best dad, husband, papa, and friend. He supported his children in all their endeavors. He lived a life of honesty, kindness, and strong work ethic. He taught us to appreciate the beauty in nature and the blessings of family and friends. He loved dancing with Carol, hiking with Danny, helping Jessi with projects, old trucks, motorcycles, working with wood, taking pictures, designing and remodeling homes, and playing on the beach with his darling granddaughters. Dan could be so funny. We will miss his quick wit, his smile, and most of all, his hugs.

He will forever be loved by his wife of 48 years, Carol; his daughter, Jessica (Jody) Weathersby; his son, Danny (Stefanie); and his granddaughters, Zoey, Evie, and Camille. He is also survived by his sisters, Margery Edwards and Mary Anne Nurkiewicz; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and dear friends. He will always be "Jimmy Snorts" to his niece Annie. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Erdice, and his brother David. He became "Papa Dan" at the Lighthouse Memory Care Center, and we are forever grateful for the loving care he received there over the past year.

To honor Dan, please do not send flowers. Instead, check your smoke detectors. He always said that during his time as Fire Marshal, Skagit County never had a death in a home with working smoke detectors. Think of Dan as you care for one another, as he always placed service above self. To share memories of Dan, please visit: https://www.evanschapel.com/obituary/dan-cain
