Daniel Manual "Dan/Danny" Camacho, a proud veteran, dedicated public servant, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in
Reedley, California-on his 90th birthday. Born on December 27, 1935, in Reedley, Daniel's life was marked by service, devotion to family, and a deep connection to his community.
Daniel began his working life as a field worker and truck driver for Hamilton Packing in Reedley. In January 1954, at the age of 18, he answered the call to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. He completed basic training at Fort Ord, California, and went on to serve with distinction as a Corporal in the United States Army. His military service took him to Korea and later to Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in December 1956 but remained a proud veteran throughout his life. One of his most cherished experiences was participating in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in June 2016 alongside his twin brother Ruben-a journey honoring Korean and World War II veterans.
In April 1957, shortly before moving to Standard, California for work with Pickering Lumber Company, Daniel met Gloria Prado. Their bond grew strong despite the distance, and they were married in November 1959. Together they built a life rooted in love and commitment that spanned more than six decades. Their daughter Elizabeth was born in May 1962 while they lived in Sonora and Standard.
In 1967, Daniel and Gloria returned to Reedley where he began working for Kings Canyon Unified School District at Washington School. In 1974, he accepted a position with the United States Postal Service in Reedley. For over two decades, Daniel served the community through his work at the post office until his retirement in December 2000.
Beyond his professional life, Daniel found joy and purpose through community involvement-particularly through youth sports. A passionate baseball enthusiast, he umpired Little League games for over 35 years and also lent his time to Babe Ruth games as needed. He was honored to serve as a District 5 All-Star Little League umpire, earning respect on and off the field for his fairness and dedication.
Daniel also enjoyed deer hunting and spending time outdoors-pursuits that reflected his appreciation for nature and tradition.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Gloria; their daughter Elizabeth DeFore; son-in-law John DeFore; grandchildren Brandon Huebert (Emily), Courtney Beeler (Brian), Justice DeFore, and Kyleigh DeFore; and great-grandchildren Claire Huebert, June Huebert, Jackson Beeler, and Riley Beeler.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Luisa Camacho; brothers Jesse Camacho, Tony Camacho, Louie Camacho, Frank Camacho; twin brother Ruben Camacho; and sister Victoria Velasquez.
