Dan Chadwick, 79, of Mandan, ND passed away in his home on August 17, 2025.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 12th at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.
Burial will follow at 12 Noon in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Daniel Dale Chadwick was born in Bismarck, ND to Lyle and Emma (Sippert) Chadwick on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946, three hours after his twin sister, DeLores.
He was raised on a farm outside of Flasher, North Dakota, and educated at the Freda and Flasher schools. He loved to ride horse and worked hard on the farm, with all the daily chores like milking cows, feeding chickens and pigs, putting up hay, and hauling bales alongside his brothers and sister. Danny drove fast and had a lead foot, wrecking a few vehicles, including his sister’s first car, a Ford Falcon.
He was drafted into the military and served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, when he was honorably discharged. He suffered from malaria, PTSD, and the effects of Agent Orange the remainder of his life.
Danny owned his own over-the-road cattle truck and mostly hauled livestock across the Midwest for more than 30 years.
He owned many motorcycles of various kinds. His favorite was his Honda Goldwing trike. He rode every day he could, most times 300 miles a day. He put on 30,000 miles a year for the past 19 years. Danny also loved to go down and ride in the Black Hills. He was a neat freak who would clean his motorcycle with a toothbrush. His winter project was putting together Legos, and he owned many large Lego sets – many which are now discontinued. There are Legos in every room of his house and garage. He also liked a Bloody Mary with a dash of Tabasco and a good grilled steak. He made chili so spicy hot, few could eat it.
He married Shirley Bonogofsky, and they had two sons, David and Dean. Danny and Shirley later divorced.
Danny is survived by his son David (Michelle); brothers Les (Connie), Gary (Joyce) and Larry; sister DeLores; sisters-in-law Kathy and Sarah; granddaughters Megan Kessler (Hayden), Isabell Norton (Hayden) and Taeler Brockman; and great grandchildren Gustav and Eleanor Kessler, and Beau Brockman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Dean; brothers Wayne, Delbert and Kenny; brother-in-law Ron Shimek; and a sister-in-law Sharon Chadwick.
Following the burial the family invites friends and family to the Mandan Eagles for a luncheon and fellowship.
