On January 29th, 2026, Daniel A. Clayton, 82, left this earth at his mountain paradise. Daniel was born on January 31, 1943, in Portsmouth VA, to the late Stanley A. Clayton and Julia P. Willis.

Daniel served in the United States Army for over 12 years and obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class while working on the Minute Man Missile System. After serving his country, Daniel worked for Volvo in Dublin, VA, where he was known for a strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help others. He retired in 2001 as a Liaison Engineer.

Daniel loved the outdoors throughout his life. He moved to the mountains in Craig County, VA in 2005, where he enjoyed the remainder of his life hunting, fishing, farming, family and the love of the American Chestnut Tree, with his wife Barbara.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Barbara of 55 years. His children, David A. Clayton of Bremerton, WA, Angela Clayton Pittman (Kent) of Surry, VA, Todd A. Clayton (Ann) of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren, Travis, Josh, Curtis, Christian, Molly, Raeann, Nathaniel, Walker; one great grandchild, Kaline; his siblings, Karen Griffin and Javonne Willis; and his wonderful neighbors, The Crowder Family.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his son Daniel A. Clayton, Jr., his brother Stanley A. Clayton, Jr. and sister Lydia Dean.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
