Daniel Berton Corby, 84, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026. He was born on November 8, 1941, in Honeoye Falls, New York, to the late Bentley and Anita Daniels Corby. After losing his mother at a young age, Daniel was raised by his stepmother, Evelyn Corby.

Dan grew up immersed in the auto body industry working alongside his father in the family business Corby’s Collision, Inc in Honeoye Falls, NY. At the age of twenty, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. During his four years of service, Dan proudly served in a civil engineering unit where he learned the electrical trade.

After his military service, Dan met the love of his life, Linda, and together they raised two sons, Michael and Ron. When his boys were young, Dan introduced them to the exciting world of BMX and motocross racing, instilling a sense of adventure, discipline, and determination. Many a weekend were spent preparing bikes and traveling throughout the western United States to compete in both club and national-level events.

Dan remained rooted and passionate about working in the auto body industry which led to him and Linda opening a Corby’s Collision, Inc location in Vacaville, California. His commitment to improving the industry also led him to serve for a time as president of the Trade Winds Auto Body Association. After many years doing what he loved, Dan and Linda relocated to Carmel, Indiana, to be closer to their grandchildren.

Dan shared a love of travel, enjoying many cruises and overseas adventures alongside his wife, Dan’s brother, Larry, and sister-in-law, Bonnie. Dan was an avid bowler and for more than twenty years, a skilled pickleball player, relishing both the competition and the camaraderie. He was especially known for his kindness in offering free lessons to those new to the sport. Dan also had a remarkable musical talent—playing the piano entirely by ear despite never having formal lessons or the ability to read music. This gift earned him the affectionate nickname “Piano Dan” among members of his retirement community.

Above all else, Dan was a devoted family man. Family values were central to his life, and he cherished the time spent playing cards, sharing laughter, and watching his grandsons’ sporting events. He was active in his church community where his dedication to service and support reflected his deep faith and commitment to others.

Dan is described by others as the kindest man on the block, known for his unwavering generosity, talkative nature, and readiness to lend a helping hand. His friendly demeanor made him an uplifting presence to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda; his sons, Mike (Karen) and Ron; grandchildren, Max Corby, Alex Corby, and Chance (Jaden) Milligan; great-grandchildren, Jax Milligan and Esmeray Milligan; siblings, Larry (Bonnie) Corby, Diane Corby; and his sweet dog, Daisy.

A Memorial Gathering for Dan will be held on Friday, February 20, from 2pm to 4:30pm, with a Memorial Service at 4:30pm, at Flanner Buchanan - Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032.
