Dan passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 at the age of 89. He was a much-loved son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Dan was born to Gertrude and Dan Coughlin on September 26, 1935, in Redding, where he was a lifelong resident. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish.
Dan attended Shasta High School and Shasta College. He played minor league baseball as a second baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates organization from 1954-1956. After hanging up his glove, he returned to Redding and began working in his father's glass shop. He married Rosalind Miller, and they had three children. Dan retired after owning and operating Shasta Glass with his brother until 1988.
Dan was an avid hunter, fly fisherman and golfer. His favorite place was his cabin at Moose Camp, where he enjoyed a lifetime of fun. This is where he spent all his summer weekends fishing, hunting and throwing horseshoes. He spent countless hours on his deck entertaining everyone with his quick wit and easy smile, regaling them with his stories and singing and dancing to country music. He was the "straw that stirred the drink."
Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Neva, and his brother Jerry. He is survived by his three children, Linda (Clay), Sherri (Jeff) and Danny (Diane); Neva's children: Rick Gersbach (Terri), Debra McGuire (Mark); nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alicia, and nephews Steve (Jennifer) and Chris.
Private interment services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
