Mr. Cox was born on July 29, 1950 in Norfolk County, VA to the late John Cox Jr. and Florence Taroff Bailey.
Those left to cherish his memory are a son Christopher Tate of Randleman; three brothers Mark (Donna) Cox of Greensboro, Larry Davis of Waco, TX, and Jack (Debbie) Harper of Monticello, IL; two sisters Tema (Dan) Church of State Road and Judy Hennessey; two grandchildren; a niece Mandy Dellinger; and a nephew Danny Church.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.

Dan not a single
Day has gone by where we haven´t thought of and missed your deep laugh and Papa Bear hugs . The world is not the same without you in it . Miss our chats on life and politics :) ... wish we could have flown that balsam airplane one time before you spread your own wings ..... big deal everyone there for us . Missing you my friend . I have known Dan for 37 years. At times he was like a big brother or special uncle or even a second dad. He could drive you crazy sometimes, but I couldn´t stay upset with him for long. In the att he´s picture he was at Ocracoke with my family. He was holding a puppy drum and I think it was one of the first that he caught there. He loved those trips. I´m all the better for knowing him and loving him. He will be missed by many.

Dan was in my life , a part of it for as long as I can remember .Have known him since I was a small child . We grew much closer as we got older and I adopted a child with special needs from China . He opened his home to us in Wilmington NC at the Beach and was truly the hostess with the mostest . He will always be " Papa Dan " to Mackenzie , and he was always super kind and sweet to her . One of my favorite pictures below . .
Dan I miss our phone chats and our visits . You were a wonderful host always and you will forever be missed .
Tell Robin hello for me and hug my Mom and Dad . Thank you for your service and for keeping us FREE .
Love you , and honestly , miss you big !!! Hate we didn´t have one more chat about life .
