Daniel Jay Shire, born May 7, 1947, to Daniel H. Jr and Ruth (Peek) Shire in Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday October 15, 2024, in Brainerd, MN. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024, at 11:00am at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Dan graduated from Mason City High School in 1966. He then attended North Iowa Area Community College, then William Penn College. He then enlisted in the United State Army, serving 1970 – 1972 as a Military Policeman in Germany. He was on the Army’s golf team, playing on many courses throughout Germany. Upon discharge, he enrolled in Hotel/Motel Management at Normandale College and graduated. He worked for Golden Valley House, then managed the Thrifty Scot motel in Mason City, Iowa. He married Mary Jo Hartung in 1974; that marriage was blessed with Brook and Erin. They divorced in 1990. Dan worked at Holiday Gas Station, then began employment with Crow Wing County in IT and accounting. He met and married Judy on Valentines Day 1993, adding Kevin and Brenda to his family. His life from teenage on revolved around the game of golf. He was on the course as often as possible. He then started a club business, building and repairing clubs and grips. He always had time for the grandchildren’s sports and events.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Judy, daughters; Brook (Mike), Erin (Matt), Brenda (Lucius), son; Kevin, grandchildren; Brittney (Dylon), Mikayla (C.J.), Mikinze, Anna, Jenica (Jarvis), Natasha (Ryan), Trinity (Kyler), Ethan, Zappa, Kyuss, Veronica, Beckett, great grandson; Percy; sister, Sandra Sue Bode; and nieces and nephews.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, and his infant grandson.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
