Mr. Daniel Gray Dowell, Sr. 91, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to his family. He was born May 13, 1934, in Forsyth County to the late Homer Columbus Dowell and Pansy Estelle Pardue Dowell. Daniel retired from Merita Bakery after 30 years of service. He also owned and operated several restaurants. In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his wife, Oda Faye Dowell; two daughters, Brenda Mabe and Kathy Dowell; two sons, Daniel Gray Dowell, Jr. and Howard Dowell; great-granddaughter, Kristina Mabe; great-grandson, Brandon Mabe, four brothers, Harvey Dowell, Russell Dowell, Grady Dowell and Paul Dowell, and two sisters, Mickey Dowell and Dorothy Lane. He is survived by four daughters, June-bug Sedoris, Diane Tugman (Jim), Darlene Ray (Warren), and Amber Hege; two sons, Richard Dowell (Mary) and James Naylor; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM Monday February 9, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor James David Jarrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM-6:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday February 10, 2026, at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall.
