Daniel Ebling Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grose Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 9, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel A. Ebling, 67, of Myerstown. Very unexpectedly he was called home on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Dan was the beloved husband of Kathy J. (Layser) Ebling for 47 years. They were married March 19, 1977 after a mutual infatuation. After raising 8 children, and all those years, they still considered each other to be their best friend.
Born in Myerstown on December 16, 1956, Dan was a son of the late Lowell and Betty (Brandt) Ebling.
Daniel was a 1974 graduate of ELCO High School. He had a long career as a Machinist working at Brenner's, Zachariah's, and most recently A & H Industries. He loved his career and had a keen "machinist eye" as he would say, for perfection. His ability to measure things to a thousandth of an inch was a talent that awed his family. He led a selfless life, generously dedicating his time to a variety of volunteer positions including 16 years as a little league baseball coach, and serving as an Awana teacher at Church. His interests were many and the saying "jack of all trades master of none" did not apply, because he truly seemed an expert on everything. Cars, homes, minor medical maladies, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. His plan for the day he passed included fixing a broken TV with his grandsons. He was ahead of his time in his appreciation and understanding of computers and technology. He had an uncanny ability to diagnose and remedy computer mishaps and malfunctions. His desire to learn anything he could about anything, caused many an uninterested party to sit through random documentaries, obscure and ancient TV shows, and YouTube videos. He knew how to engage a crowd and made friends with everyone. An accident in 2009 left him paralyzed with limited use of his hands and legs. His positive spirit during this trial was inspirational. He lived in constant pain yet never complained. We rejoice that his body is restored in his Heavenly home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Craig (Denise) Ebling, Jacob (Laura) Ebling, Sarah (David) Gass, David (Meghan) Ebling, Michael Ebling (Jessica Cavalcanti), James (Callie) Ebling, Rachel (Shane) Mentzer, and Thomas (Julie) Ebling; grandchildren, Tyler, Jeanine, Addison, Erin, Sydney, Thomas, Kaitlin, Elijah, John, Clark; brothers, Michael (Candace) Ebling, Erich Ebling, and Geoffrey (Joy) Ebling. And many nieces and nephews. Daniel was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Ebling.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 5 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, 22 E. Main Ave., Myerstown, preceded by a meet and greet beginning at 4 p.m. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital that helped Dan live his life after his accident. A donation link is included below https://giving.jefferson.edu/giving-guide/hospitals/magee.html

My first memory of Dan was him holding his bike in 1 hand and climbing the ladder of the TALL sliding board at Jackson Elementary playground and riding the bike down the slide! I thought he was so brave!!!!
Kathy, you and your family have my deepest sympathies and are in my prayers. I will be out of town and not able to attend the service but I´ll be there in spirit.
