TORRINGTON -
Daniel Ellis, Sr., 91, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born on April 15, 1933 in New Hartford. He was the son of the late Earnest & Lillian (Cochran) Ellis.
Dan enjoyed working with wood. Having worked at the Hitchcock Chair Co. and Winsted Precision Ball Co.
He also enjoyed mowing lawns and helping anyone who needed it. He loved spending his days waking up with the sunrise and tinkering on anything and everything. In his words, "if you don't wake up early, half the day is gone." He was known for his ingenuity and creating unique projects out of anything. He enjoyed going to Lebanon Valley. Dan was also proud of his Native American heritage.
He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Catherine (Corna) Ellis, a son, Earnest John Ellis and twin grandchildren, Catherine and MaKayla as well as a brother, Raymond Ellis and a sister, Ernestine Sweeney.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Elllis, Jr. (Kim) of Rocky Point, North Carolina, Lillian Fay (Phil) of Winsted, Connecticut, Catherine Gunthert of Wilmington, North Carolina, Lisa Oltsch (Carl), Ronald Ellis (Danielle) of Florence, South Carolina, Betty Swiderski (Ken) of Torrington, Connecticut and Robert Ellis (Kelly) of North Grafton, Massachusetts.
He was very proud to be a grandfather of 8 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Jannette, Betty and Pauline as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on November 9, 2024 at the First Church, 835 Riverside Ave, Torrington, CT from 1 - 5 PM and private burial in the Barkhamsted cemetery.
