Daniel Everist Obituary

Daniel Everist, Sr.

February 5, 1929 - January 13, 2026

Daniel Edwin Everist, Sr., 96, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026. Born February 5, 1929, he was the seventh child of Hubert H., Sr. and Julia Green Everist.

Educated at Blessed Sacrament, Canterbury Prep, Central High, and Stanford University (Civil Engineering), Dan graduated, married his kindergarten sweetheart Mary Louise Wadden, and joined the U.S. Air Force in the same week in 1951. After two years of military service he had a distinguished civil engineering career, including Professional Engineer certification, with Western Contracting Corporation. Dan supervised major projects like expansions at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Big Bend Dam, and the Mirdan Canal.

Dan and Mary raised eight children, instilling values of integrity and hard work. Though his career spanned the country, Sioux City remained home. He enjoyed golf, playing Pitch, and Saturday night dances at the Sioux City Country Club.

Dan is remembered for his professional achievements, deep spiritual devotion, generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Louise (2007), six siblings, son-in-law John Romeo (2025), and grandsons Patrick Romeo (2023), and Damon Doherty (2022). He is survived by his children: Elizabeth Romeo, Sarah, MaryPat, Daniel, Jr. (Juliet), James, Andrew (Donna), Luke (Mary), and Teresa Delfs (William); 38 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A private burial will be held in Sioux City. Arrangements are entrusted to Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
