A
TRIBUTE
TO
DANIEL THOMAS FAVIER
It was in the summer of 1978 when I first had the privilege of meeting Dan at a cocktail/dinner party at the home of two dear mutual friends on Westminster Place in St. Louis´s Central West End. It was while lounging on the rear veranda of that most lovely city residence overlooking beautiful enclosed private gardens that Dan first introduced himself to me. Thus, began a nearly two-hour stimulating conversation contemplating historic St. Louis architecture, traditional design in general, St. Louis history, gardening and classical music. Dan could talk for hours and just that one introductory, shared experience with Dan made me realize I wanted right then and there to have this person as my friend.
That was nearly a half century ago and although we have somewhat strayed from each others presence in more recent years - distance and age playing a large part of this - I have always treasured our friendship and the inspiration I enjoyed from him ever since, including his remarkable wit and good sense of humor. I consider myself a much better, more well-rounded and pronounced individual having been blessed knowing him.
While restoring my own former historic home in the city I much enjoyed sharing experiences with Dan while he in turn spent quite a few years renovating his own pet project over on McPherson Avenue - a dilapidated three-story townhouse in what was then a still very marginal and very rundown area. We would share ideas and notes back and forth, learning from and helping each other as we worked on our individual projects. Later Dan sold this particular fine rehab deciding to remain living with his now deceased mother in order to continue taking care of her - a sign of Dan´s faithfulness to both family and tradition. Today that fine rehabbed residence Dan spent so many years carefully and meticulously restoring now shines as a fine compliment to a splendidly revised urban neighborhood. We should all be ever-so-blessed and fortunate to have such a devoted friend and family member in the discordant and very troubled world we all live in today.
I will always miss Dan´s engaging laughs, his tremendous knowledge of St. Louis´ history and his immense love for the classical arts. As a descendant of old French St. Louis aristocracy he always brought an engaging, thoughtful, educated perspective to any conversation. St. Louis was a much better place having Dan as a viable part of the overall community. I, for one, consider myself a much better person for having known and experienced this most extraordinary individual. He will be greatly missed. God bless you, Dan. May dear Jesus embrace you within his loving arms.

Dan,
We appreciate spending time with you, organizing St Mary Magdalen 8th grade reunions, going to lunch & visiting historic homes in the central west end. We miss you, but know you are in a better place & comfortable after a long convalescence. Love to you!
