Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services on May 17, 2024.
Daniel A. Fleege, age 64, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, after a long brave fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends on his final days. He went through so much but always had a smile when you saw him. He never let cancer steal his kind sweet soul. We believe he held on as long as he did, despite the pain, because so many of us were always there, telling stories and reminiscing. There were many tears, but always love and laughter.
Per Dan's wishes, a private family service & burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in
Sinsinawa, WI.
Family and friends are welcome to gather to remember Dan, share stories and celebrate everything he meant to us at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25th at PJ's Pub & Hall in
Kieler, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in
Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
Dan started working at the Sinsinawa Mound. He moved to Madison, but eventually bought a house and settled in
Arena, WI. He spent most of his life working for Formosa Communications from which he just recently retired.
He lived and enjoyed a simple quiet life. He loved music and has an extensive collection. He loved to share that passion and enjoyed surprising us with his picks for the family vacation playlist. He also loved sports, especially all of our Wisconsin teams, in particular the Green Bay Packers. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers you broke his heart. Most of all he loved spending time with a few good friends and his rather large family. We will miss his kind heart, his smile and his sense of humor. You never knew what he was going to say and always had us laughing.
Dan is survived by his eight siblings: Shirley (Robert) Szafran of
Nacogdoches, TX, Mary (Cabler) Bergschneider of
Sun City West, AZ, Jack (Rita) Fleege of Hazel Green, WI, Karl (Karen) Fleege of
Dubuque, IA, Julie (Dan) Matuszak of
Cuba City, WI, Gary Fleege of
Watertown, WI, Kim (Mike) Koopmann of Epworth, IA, Krista (Rob) Horton of
Spring Green, WI; 19 nieces and nephews; 18 great nieces and nephews and the Lindenberg Family. He found peace knowing that he would be joining his parents, Clarence and Kathleen, his sister, Linda and holding his great nephew, Silas Sturm. Knowing that they would be together again in Heaven made facing leaving this world less frightening.
Not everyone has prior knowledge of their death, but when Danny knew that his body could take no more, he handled it with strength, grace, courage, faith, love and humor. He actually helped us try to accept it. We will miss him so much, especially his big heart, that smile and quirky sense of humor. We are comforted in the knowledge that he is in a much better place, free of pain.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone at Upland Hills in Dodgeville, especially that amazing nursing staff on the 2nd floor. Their kindness, care and compassion made a heart wrenching situation bearable. We can never put into words how much we appreciate everyone for the care that Dan received. There truly are angels on earth.
Dan Loved and was Loved, and that is a Life Well Spent.
