Daniel Clarence “Dan” Full passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 in Dubuque, Iowa on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Dan was born in LeMars, Iowa on May 13, 1963. He was the fifth of six children born to Alvin and Delores Full. He attended school at Alton St. Mary’s in Alton, Iowa and Spalding Catholic High School in Granville, Iowa. Dan married the love of his life, Diane Catherine McCarty on February 20, 1984 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, Iowa. Together they were blessed with four beautiful children whom he was very proud of. Dan and Diane began farming near Royal in 1986, running a farrow to finish hog operation and raising crops with the help of their children.
Dan loved his family dearly. Each year, Dan ensured time was spent with his family camping and vacationing. Dan’s love for family was also made evident as he became a grandpa. You could never catch “Papa Dan” without a package of Smarties in his pocket for the grandkids. He had a true passion for the outdoors, which he shared with family and friends alike. From “clobbering” walleyes at the river to hunting and trapping, Dan loved it all (so long as it wasn’t too “freaking windy”). You could find Dan in his little red Toyota pickup, which he called his “company vehicle”, checking crops most evenings. If Dan wasn’t in his shed, at the river, or hosting a fish fry, chances are he was looking for either his wallet, belt, or glasses.
It didn’t matter if you knew him as Dan, Dad, Papa Dan, Danny, a son, a brother, an uncle, a neighbor, or a friend, you knew he was a hardworking man that was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was humble and gracious. He made his love for helping others evident one last time as he changed a stranger's tire on the side of the road just a few hours before his death. Dan was a devoted husband, a nurturing father, and an unwavering friend who was strong in his faith and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife Diane, his mother Delores (Berding) Full, his four children Jessica (Jim) Justi of Sheldon, Iowa, Austin (Scarlett) Full of Hartford, South Dakota, Tana (Isaac) Buresch of Chancellor, South Dakota, and Brandon (Jennifer) Full of Crystal Lake, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, 5 siblings; Kathy (Pat) Beck, Steve (Nancy) Full, Christine (Harold) Harson, Tony (Kris) Full, Jerry (Nichole) Full, 9 in-laws, Jim (Mary) McCarty, Bob (Lois) McCarty, Dan (Donna) McCarty, Mark McCarty, Gene McCarty, Allen (Javotte) McCarty, Barb Brunsvold, Julie Schuett, and Lori (Jeff) Maurer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Full, grandparents Clarence and Viola Berding, and Arthur and Clara (Bunkers) Full, mother and father in-law Dave and Rita (Theisen) McCarty, sister in-law Bev McCarty, and aunts, uncles, niece, and nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Farm Rescue, an organization that supported Dan in a time of need.
