Daniel Gerstenlauer, 63, died peacefully in the care of Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island on February 28, 2025.
He was the son of Charles D. Gerstenlauer and Dorothy J. (Henthorne) Gerstenlauer, and brother of Thomas and John. Dan was raised in East Providence, RI and most recently lived in Coventry, RI.
He was a school bus operator for the Cranston Public School system, and earlier for the Chesterfield County School system in Virginia. Dan was a graduate of East Providence High School, followed by studies at the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. He was a student of history, devoting much of his leisure time to investigating his family lineage and developing the family tree back to 13th century England. He loved music and played bass guitar, upright bass and drums with friends, of whom he had many. His circle of friends extended into college and community theater, as well, and he played roles in a wide variety of theatrical productions.
Dan is survived by his brothers, three nieces and two nephews. His community of friends also remember him with great love and affection.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Hope Congregational Church, 120 Wampanoag Trail in East Providence, RI on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
