Daniel Golay Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 18, 2023.
Daniel William Golay, 63, of Springfield, Missouri (formerly of Chanute, Kansas), passed away
unexpectedly on October 14th, 2023. He was born on October 5th, 1960.
He is survived by three brothers, Chris, Paul, and Kevin, a sister, Mary, his two sons, Tim and
Austin, his partner, Theresa Scherff, his partner's children Matthew and Andrew, and five
beautiful grandchildren, Teddy, Lucy, Rose, Mason, and Esme. Daniel is predeceased by his
mother, Ruth, his father, John, and brothers Robert, Mark, David, and Anthony.
Daniel was known for his love of his pets, music, sports, fishing, family, and quality
craftsmanship. He was an incredibly skilled master of woodworking, and supported his friends
and family in completing many custom projects. Daniel learned to play the guitar as a young
man, and he played with friends and as a church musician occasionally. His love of AC/DC, Van
Halen, Boston, and other great rock bands kept his drive for playing guitar alive and with him to
his final days.
Daniel will be remembered for his readiness to help family, friends, and colleagues in any
situation, and he will be remembered as a loving grandfather, father, partner, and brother. His
originality and humor touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew
him.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023 at Countryside Funeral Home in
Chanute, Kansas from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to
Daniel's grandson Mason Golay to support Mason's ongoing ordeal with infant brain cancer at https://gofund.me/5a9694c4. We invite you to share your memories and condolences at the visitation
service. In loving memory of a beloved father, partner, and brother, Dan Golay.
