Daniel Walter Hancock

Daniel Walter "Dan" Hancock passed away September 27, 2025 in Hillsborough NC, following an extended illness. He was born January 19, 1943 to Curtis Mullins Hancock and Annie Hicks Hancock in Carroll County VA and attended Hampden-Sydney College prior to serving as a medic in the US Army. He then completed his education at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, becoming a registered pharmacist. Dan was a long-time resident of Mecklenburg County, VA, serving as a community pharmacist at O'Briens (later People's) Drugstore in Chase City and Montgomery Drug in South Hill. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church (Chase City) and South Hill United Methodist Church before relocating to North Carolina and joining Union Chapel Baptist Church in Clarksville VA, where he served as a deacon. Dan was pre-deceased by son Jonathan Daniel Hancock and former wife Patricia O'Connell Hancock. He is survived by Dr. Jananne O'Connell (David Cooper) of Cary NC and Pete Hancock (Megan) as well as granddaughters Lila and Adeline of Nashville NC, sisters Donna Lea Hancock of Emporia VA, Gayle Chapman of Gerrardstown, WV and a host of nieces and nephews. He will additionally be greatly missed by dear friend Gail Slininger and family of Bullock, NC. Services will be held Friday October 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Service, 28868 Hwy 49 Chase City VA. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Granville County Animal Shelter or a meaningful charity of your choice.
