Daniel Shawn Harris I (“Big Dan”)
Daniel Shawn Harris I, affectionately known as “Big Dan,” age 65, peacefully passed away on December 16, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana at IU Methodist Hospital. In the city where he was born, raised, and lived his entire life.
Dan was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose love for his family and faith in God guided every part of his life. He was an attendee of House of Victory Church, where his faith was reflected through the way he lived—with kindness, patience, and quiet strength. Known for his caring, gentle demeanor, Dan was proudly remembered as “the cool dad” by his children and those who knew him.
Dan was retired and a gifted artist and inventor, always creating and imagining new ideas. He was an avid NFL fan and a lifelong supporter of the Indianapolis Colts. He deeply loved his country, held great pride in the American flag, and embraced all things patriotic. Above all, he was known for his unwavering love for God and his family—values he carried daily and passed on to those he loved.
Dan is survived by his daughters, Nora Nicole Harris and Misty June Becraft; his son, Daniel Shawn Harris II; his brother, Robert Lee Harris II; his ex-wife, Sandra Kay Becraft; and his beloved grandchildren, Anthony Dawayne McLean Jr., Destiny Lynn Harris, Jamie Ry-Ann Becraft, Jaylynn Brianna Becraft, and James Brandon Becraft. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Harris Sr.; his mother, June Jeanette Harris (Small); his son, Dustin Sean Harris; his brothers, Larry Ray Harris and Stanley Keith Harris; his nephew, Robert Lee Harris III; and his niece, Amanda June Harris-Rocha.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 5th, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM (family may arrive at 12:00 PM) at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, located at 1604 W. Morris Street, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
A graveside burial service will take place on Tuesday, January 6th, at 12:00 PM (Noon) at Mayo Cemetery, 5953 W. Duff Road SE, Huntingburg, IN 47542, at the Harris family plot (Lot 12, Plot #2).
Daniel “Big Dan” Harris I will be deeply missed and forever loved. His legacy lives on through his faith, his family, and the many lives he touched with compassion, creativity, and unconditional love.
