Daniel Reid Hawkins, 62 of Novi Michigan, passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on October 1,2025, at Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital in Novi, Michigan. Dan was born August 9, 1963 in Flint MI, to Carroll and Susan Hawkins.
Dan graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1982 and went on to Jackson Community college taking courses in business law. He worked for the Wolverine Truck Plaza at I-94 and Baker Road for 12 years. Dan started out as fuel attendant and eventually became a manager, a position he held until an auto accident in 1995 left him a quadriplegic. Even though Dan was wheelchair bound for 30 years he kept an upbeat attitude most of the time.
Dan enjoyed being outdoors, watching rodeos and old movies, singing (even though he couldn't sing much after his accident), and talking! He especially loved to talk about the Bible, God, politics, cars and semi-trucks.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Carroll Hawkins and sister in-law Irene Hawkins.
He is survived by his mother Susan Hawkins of Tecumseh, MI, and four siblings, James Hawkins of Tecumseh, MI, Michael (Julie) Hawkins, of Tecumseh, MI, Thomas (Deborah) Hawkins of Wellsville, PA and Angela (Michael) Harriott of Britton, MI, along with 8 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
His family would like to give special recognition and thanks to John and Lorine, owners of Inspire Home Care who arranged for in-home care for Dan for many years, and to the loving Inspire care staff who took care of Dan's every basic need 24/7. Thank you. Dan is now in heaven walking once again, praise be to God! At his request cremation has taken place.
The family will hold a homegoing celebration at Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will also take place at Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway, MI.
Charitable contributions in honor of Dan may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA.org), Compassion International (compassion.com), or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) or you could pick up a bag of unsalted peanuts and feed some squirrels, as Dan would often do for the critters at his apartment.
