Daniel Paul Hecksel, 65, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at his home. Born August 15, 1960 in Grand Rapids, he was the son of the late Hadley and Jeanne (Lyon) Hecksel and was the devoted husband of Terri (Miller) Hecksel. Dan had worked as an engineer for Bosch for many years prior to his retirement. He loved spending time with his family at their cabin in Irons, MI. Dan also enjoyed working on all types of cars and racing cars in Martin on occasion. Dan owned 52 vehicles throughout his life and took great pride in every single one. Dan took great pride in his home and especially in his yard where he would spend many hours making sure everything was pristine.
In addition to Terri, his wife of forty-four years, Dan is survived by his children, Jillian Hecksel, Matthew Hecksel and Benjamin (Stephanie) Hecksel; grandchildren, Christian Hecksel, Llyric Brookins, Beckhym Young, Cayden Bessinger, Owen Bessinger, Isabelle Wierenga, Avery Hecksel, Cameron Hecksel and Connor Hecksel; brothers, Thomas (Lori) Hecksel and Gregory (Bonnie) Hecksel; mother-in-law, Elaine Miller; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Hadley and Jeanne, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jon Miller.
The family will receive friends at Ofield Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A light meal will be provided following the visitation. Flowers may be sent directly to Ofield Funeral Home.
