Daniel C. Higgins

Daniel C. Higgins, 74, of Tennessee, IL, passed away at 9:00 pm Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on July 14, 1951, in Augusta, IL, to Dale and Cecelia (Thomas) Higgins.

Dan graduated from Augusta High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard, where he served locally during the Vietnam War. Dan married Peggy Ehmen on August 13, 1972. He is survived by his wife, his son, Darin (Diana) Higgins of Bushnell; his daughter, Danelle (Denver) Smith of Blandinsville; four grandchildren: Cody (Sadie) Higgins, Abbie (Riley) Franzen, Daylee Smith, and Devyn Smith; three great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Jeanne Higgins; one nephew, and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don Higgins.

Dan made his career as a service technician/lineman with General Telephone & Electronics (GTE) for thirty years. After retirement, he drove a semi for Ufkes Trucking and was a groundskeeper with Tri-County golf course. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, mushrooming, completing crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family. He loved to read and tell jokes, especially with his grandchildren. He attended St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb.

Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements. Visitation is Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5 – 7 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta. A memorial mass will be Tuesday, December 30th, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb, IL, at 10 am followed by a graveside burial in Golden, IL, at 1:30 pm.
