Daniel Hobson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory - Midland on May 23, 2025.
Daniel (Danny) Joseph Hobson, age 89 of Midland, Texas, passed away on Thursday May 22, 2025. Services will be Tuesday May 27, 2025 at Wilshire Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Ellis Resthaven Cemetery.
Danny was born on February 3, 1936 in Barksdale AFB, Louisiana to Earl Hobson and Dollie Walter Hobson. He was the youngest of their three children. Danny had an older sister and brother, Blanche Hobson and David Earl Hobson. His father was career military, so a lot of Danny's young childhood was spent on military bases across the United States as well as time in the Panama Canal Zone. He also grew up in the Texas Hill Country. Danny finally settled in Kermit, Texas in his sophomore year of high school. In addition to attending school, Danny also worked for Borden's Milk before school and later on Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Company. During his high school years, Danny met the love of his life, Barbara Jo Hill. After finishing school, he went to work in the oilfield as a roughneck. On February 17, 1956, Danny and Barbara were married in Lovington, NM where they found a random preacher at his home and his wife came out of the bedroom to serve as a witness as the young couple was married. They were blessed with the addition to their family with the birth of their daughter Karen Marie Hobson and 7-1/2 years later a son, Daniel Curtis Hobson. After many years in the oilfield, Danny went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company on November 22, 1963, where he stayed employed until his retirement in November 1996. In August of 1966, El Paso Natural Gas transferred him to Midkiff, Texas. Danny and his family moved to Midland, Texas. That move was a hard one, but it turned out to be the best thing for the young family. Friends invited them to visit Wilshire Park Baptist Church, where after to some time, Danny was led to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior with guidance from Pastor Luther Mann. Along with being active in their church, and working hard, Danny and Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling across the country and bowling on weekly teams and participating in tournaments as far away as Las Vegas. While Danny was a hard working, fun loving guy, he was also the tender heart of the family. He loved his God, his family and his country. These qualities inspired a love of God, family, country, patriotism and history in his children. Not only was he a great husband and dad, he delighted in being a PaPa, great PaPa and great-great PaPa. Danny had four generations that thought he hung the moon and stars. If any of the kids were involved in anything, he was there to support and cheer them on. Danny is survived by his wife of 69 years Barbara Hobson, daughter Karen Goodson, son Curtis Hobson, granddaughter Mandy Dempsey (Buck), great grandsons Hunter Dempsey and Brayden Dempsey (Mary) and great-great granddaughter Adalynn Grace Dempsey.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents Earl Hobson and Dollie Carson, sister Blanche Hobson and brother David Hobson and son-in-law George Goodson.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Ashton Medical Lodge, Hospice of Midland and most of all, their church families at Wilshire Park Baptist Church and Crestview Baptist Church.
