Daniel Hughes Obituary

Hughes, Daniel P.
VENICE, Fla. - Daniel P. Hughes ("Danny"), age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Danny was born on October 26, 1955, in Albany, N.Y., to the late Joseph A. Hughes Sr. and Mary Brennan Hughes. He was a lifelong Albany resident, before retiring to Venice, Fla.
He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Cardinal McCloskey High School, graduating in 1974. Danny continued his education at Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston, where he earned a degree in Business Administration in 1976. Throughout his career, he held various business-related positions, including employment with the city and county of Albany. He began his publishing career at Boyd Printing and the New York State Education Department for Official Publications, from which he retired in 2017.
Danny was a lifelong New York Giants and New York Yankees fan. He will be remembered for his gift for turning ordinary moments into memorable ones. He had a deep passion for deer hunting, fishing, camping, and boating, and especially cherished his time at Schroon Lake, N.Y., a place that held special meaning in his life. Danny was also blessed with lifelong friendships that began in childhood, and remained strong throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph A. Hughes Jr., Suzanne H. Meher, and James B. Hughes; and his nephew, Shawn Meher.
Danny is survived by the love of his life for 47 years, Linda Joyce-Hughes of Venice, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Daniel Meher, of Albany; and his sisters-in-law, Ann Hughes of Venice, Fla., Judy Joyce (Norm), and Joann Joyce, of Schroon Lake, N.Y. He also leaves behind his devoted nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud, Dana Cechnicki (Leo), Jerry Smith, Moira Mills (Sean), Patrick Hughes (Elisa), Brendan Hughes (Rebecca), Erin Davison and Megan Battibulli (Michael); along with many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to attend on January 28, at 10:30 a.m., a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave., Albany, N.Y. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Empath Tidewell Hospice Foundation.
