Daniel Jacobs

AKWESASNE - Daniel J. (Hicks) Jacobs, 64, of Akwesasne, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Daniel was born on December 17, 1961, in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Donald and Bernice (Sunday) Jacobs. He attended school in the Syracuse area and dedicated 25 years of hard work to Lazore Construction. A true "jack of all trades and master of none," Daniel was known for his ability to fix or build just about anything.

An Organ Donor who continued to give even in passing and always looking out for the other guy, Daniel found his greatest joys in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, cooking, and spending sunny afternoons at Barnhart Beach. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and his many grandchildren.

Daniel is survived by his children: Daniel Johnson Jr., Desiree Johnson, Dillion Johnson, Destinee Jacobs, and Deklen Jacobs, all of Akwesasne, and Derrick Johnson of Syracuse. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Joanne Herne of Akwesasne; 17 grandchildren: Andrew, Hailey, Isaac, Skylar, Avalynn, Harli, Henli, Logan, Aryanna, Carmen, Carter, Saphfirie, Skylynn, Janelle, Josie, Julian and Joelle; and his siblings: Helena Jacobs, Katrina Jacobs (David Colon), Regina Jacobs, Phillip Jacobs Jr., all of Akwesasne; Carmella (Pete) Colon and Christopher "LaBoy" Jacobs (Jodele) and Ira Jacobs all of Syracuse; and Ernest Jacobs of Quebec.

He also leaves behind a chosen son, Wati McDonald; a chosen daughter, Jennifer Johnson; an aunt, Shirley Jacobs; Two goddaughters, Miraya Oakes and Jasmin Johnson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Donald Jacobs, in 2018; a daughter, Danielle Johnson, in 2016; and a brother, Louis Jacobs in 2020.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Akwesasne Homemakers in Snye beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Calling hours will continue until the time of service on Friday at 2:00 PM at the Homemakers.
