Known by all his friends as "D.J." for nearly all his life, he was Methodist by faith. He was an Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm, earned God and Country Award and Order of the Arrow and was a member of the Bob White Lodge. In 1975, Danny returned to Thomson where he worked for the McDuffie County Sheriffs office under Sheriff William Swan. In 1980, he left law enforcement and spent the next 36 years until his retirement in 2015 in the residential field. He spent the balance of his life on his "Little Piece of Heaven" in Warren County.
