With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel (Dan) Hynes, 83, and his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kay) Brennan Hynes, 84 of Quincy, MA. Kathleen passed away on August 9, 2024, and Daniel followed her on August 13, 2024.
Daniel, a distinguished Marine and retired MBTA general foreman, was known for his unwavering dedication to family and friends. Kathleen devoted 50 years of her life as a nurse at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where she was cherished by colleagues and patients alike. Together, they shared a deep love for family, friends, reading, their faith, ski trips, playing board games with their son Sean, enjoying their pool, and traveling. Their kindness, warmth, and generosity touched many lives, and their shared adventures brought joy and laughter to those around them.
Married for 53 years, Dan and Kay were inseparable in life, and their profound bond continued even in their passing. They are survived by their beloved son, Sean; Jennifer Brogna and Julie Girschek, whom they cherished like their own; numerous nieces and nephews; and a vast circle of friends who will forever hold their memories close. Kathleen was born in Waltham, the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Whelan) Brennan. She was the sister of John Brennan of Waltham, Donald Brennan of Waltham, Edward Brennan of Fla., William Brennan of Waltham, and the late Charles Brennan and the late James Brennan. Daniel was born in Boston, the beloved son of the late John and Nora (Cullinane) (Connolly) Hynes and was predeceased by his sisters Francis Hynes, Patricia Mitchell, Mary Gallegos, and his brothers James Connolly and Joseph Connolly. Their legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will endure through their family and all who had the honor of knowing them.
A joint funeral mass will be held on August 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Church, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Daniel and Kathleen Hynes' love story is a testament to enduring partnership and devotion. They have been reunited in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew them. Their memories will forever be cherished by their family and friends. Kay and Dan are soul mates. Around the PAR5 pool Kay shared interesting reviews about a good story and then generously gave away the book to others. We will miss Kay and Dan smiles and clever dry humor. Our prayers are with their family and dear friends.

A lovely couple. I met them through their son Sean. One memory that stands out is the watching of the Superbowl with them.
