Portsmouth - "If you plan to build a tall house of virtues, you must first lay deep foundations of humility." - Augustine
Daniel Levere Plummer was born in
Worcester, Massachusetts on December 3, 1949. Losing his mother at a young age, he was blessed with a stepmother who was loving, present and available and a father who lead by example. Dan grew up seeing his father's strong work ethic and problem-solving abilities and, through him, learned carpentry skills and the mechanics of car repair. These were the origins of Dan's gentle and disciplined style.
Dan's professional journey began when he was only 19 years old. A self-starter, he was inspired to launch a construction business and, despite his young age, he found a way to make that dream a reality. That first professional victory was an indication of how Dan would live his life. He was a quiet and humble planner who was always a step ahead of things.
Years later, two wonderful forces collided when Dan and Renee met. Dan was quiet and pensive and Renee was dynamic and driven. The two soon realized that their magic went far beyond business. Their love and admiration for one another was strong and so they blended their families and their lives and never looked back. Life together was charmed. They both thrived on a challenge and they completed one another beautifully, both personally and professionally. Most importantly, they dreamed together. Renee was the champion in his corner and together they worked tirelessly to bring their dreams to life. Well connected and driven, Renee made the calls and built the connections and Dan made the plans. This winning formula took the couple to new heights. It was a winning partnership that Dan cherished dearly.
One of Dan's most grand collaborations with Renee was the development of the Pease International Tradeport. After the closing of Pease Air Force Base, a huge piece of land that had defined Portsmouth lay dormant. Dan saw the potential and Renee knew how to give that dream traction. In 1998, the two built a showplace commercial building at Two International Drive. With over 88 thousand square feet of office space, it was a polished, sophisticated beacon to the national business community that called out: New Hampshire is open for business! John Hancock was their first tenant and soon a domino effect of rentals began. Today, that land is a vibrant and bustling business community that has enriched the face of the Seacoast and become a living testament to what Dan and Renee could accomplish together.
Dan was actively involved in Two International Group, the company he shared with Renee.
As a licenced real estate broker in New Hampshire with a background in construction, he was responsible for development, construction activities and all leasing at Two International.
While Dan was building a professional legacy, he never took his eye off family. Sunday dinners were always on the agenda. Dan loved to be surrounded by loved ones and friends, all while enjoying good food, good company and catching up on the week's events. These were important times that Dan appreciated right to the very end of his days.
Always a priority, Dan made his blended family work. His children, Ryan and Danielle along with Renee's children, Jackie, Christina and Johnny, who he loved as his own, meant everything to him. He always found time to spend with them, even when he was tired or weary from a long day. Dan never lost sight of how important his family was or how proud he was of them. Family trips, both across the United States and abroad, were always fun and appreciated. Baseball games were important destinations where he could see his grandsons play. Wherever his family was, Dan was never far behind.
Loyalty was an important part of who Dan was. He loved his country with all of his heart and served it proudly through the New Hampshire Air National Guard from February of 1968 to January 1974. Ironically, he served at Pease and would later find professional success at that same spot. He was loyal to his friends, always available to anyone in need and, lastly, he was loyal to his community. Dan and Renee breathed spirit and life into the city they both loved. The two were often greeted with smiles and hugs while walking down a Portsmouth street. What a wonderful legacy to have shared such happiness with friends and strangers alike.
Always implicated, Dan's philanthropic affiliations were many. He sat on the boards of: the NHSPCA, Prescott Park Arts Festival and Foundation, the Foundation for Seacoast Health, Mechanic Fire Society, the Granite Springs Foundation and the Renee and Dan Plummer Endowment Fund through Easterseals New Hampshire. He was also a past member of the Portsmouth Elks.
Selfless, Dan loved to share the credit. He never felt pressure to be anything he wasn't and he was always adamant that nothing was ever accomplished alone. Generous with praise, that was all part of what made him so likeable. Most importantly, he loved to talk about Renee and her accomplishments. Renee was his everything and he valued their life together and all of her talents. When she celebrated a success, Dan was always comfortable to sit in the shadows while she shined. It was his joy.
Dan's accomplishments were many. He helped to raise a family, he had the vision to build a professional legacy and he found his soulmate to share it all. Dan enjoyed his life with Renee and together they inspired one another to reach new heights and perfect individual talents. It was magic in motion and Dan cherished every minute.
When Danny was close to death, he asked: Do you think that anyone will come to my funeral? May Dan know that people came! They remembered him fondly and they honored him in so many wonderful ways. He was truly loved ... Danny was an easy man to love.
