Daniel Ryan Liddy, age 91 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Stony Brook, New York. Dan was born on December 16,1934 in Bayridge, Brooklyn to the proud parents of Frank & Ethel Liddy. He was the youngest of three siblings, Eileen Waldron & Frank Liddy.
When Dan was not in school, he spent his early years going to the beach, on rides at Coney Island and playing stick ball in the streets of Brooklyn with childhood friends. He cherished his grade school friends and met with them annually up until this past year.
Dan was a proud Alumni of the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He also was an active member in the theater group and was known to be a "hoofer". Before pursuing his degree, he joined the Navy Reserves after college and worked for the NSA, where he spent some time during the cold war stationed in Berlin, Germany as well as other locations. It wasn't long before he was introduced to Priscilla Liddy in Arlington, and wed shortly after on July 2, 1960, in the Basilica of Notre Dame.
Dan left the reserves and started his career at Airborne Instruments Laboratory/Eaton Corp. where he worked with radar traffic control systems, which took him to places all over the world. He spent much time overseas in Hong Kong, Australia, and India.
Dan loved the outdoors. He loved fishing, boating, and anything that had to do with Maine, where his family enjoyed most of their summers in the family cabin, while he was busy working and traveling overseas. He referred to Maine often as his "heaven" and would try to spend as much time there as possible, even sometimes in the dead of winter with no heat!
Dan loved his family. He loved his wife of 65 years. He loved his favorite oldest daughter, Jennifer; his second favorite oldest daughter, Heather; his favorite son, Jeffrey; his favorite youngest daughter Michele; and his favorite daughter in law Denise. He loved his nieces and nephews, Brian Waldron, Kathy Maier, Joanie Waldron, Eileen Wyremski, Rob Waldron and predeceased Todd and Mark Liddy. He loved his grandchildren; Nicole, Daniel, Zachary and Samantha.
Dan loved to dance! He loved live theater, Broadway, big band music, trains, looking at boats in Port Jeff harbor, wandering the aisles of Radio Shack and Toyotas. He was a carpenter. He loved to build things. There is not a room in the house that Dan was not part of making it better. Dan was responsible for building and creating many items and pieces of furniture for all; benches to sit on, tables to eat on, tv stands, entertainment centers, book shelves for photo albums, candle holders, coffee tables, end tables, couch tables, cedar framed hope chests, clock frames and the beams/mantels in the playroom. He had a dry wit and a great sense of humor and he loved his sweets!!! But most of all, he loved the Lord.
Dan was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was very active in his parish. He was a eucharistic minister, lector, led the Archbishop's Annual Appeal and was one of the founding Fathers for Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen at St. James Church which was established in 1990.
Dan will be dearly missed and remembered for his strength, his calmness, his unconditional love, and his enduring faith and love for his family. He cherished his friends, adored his family, and was devoted to the Lord. Noone has met Dan that was not touched by his kindness and sincerity.
Jesus will remember you when you come into his kingdom ~ Oh Danny Boy.
