DANIEL MCGONIGAL Obituary

BETHLEHEM - Daniel Edward McGonigal, PA-C, a cherished son, brother, and dedicated medical professional, passed away on July 14, 2024, in Bethlehem.

Born on June 16, 1998, in Clearfield, Daniel's warmth and compassion touched the lives of all who knew him throughout his 26 years.

Formerly of Morrisdale, and raised in a loving family, Daniel was the beloved son of Howard McGonigal and Cheryl (Williams) McGonigal.

He shared a special bond with his sister Kaitlyn, and his paternal grandparents, Edward McGonigal and Shirley Zimmerman, who will fondly remember his kind spirit. His faithful canine companion, MJ, was a source of joy and constant companionship.

Daniel was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Sally Williams.

Daniel's academic journey was marked by dedication and excellence. He graduated from West Branch Area High School in 2016, where he first demonstrated his commitment to serving others. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Lock Haven University in 2019, followed by his Master's degree in the physician assistant program at the same institution in 2022. His passion for learning and helping others propelled him through his studies, and he emerged as a compassionate and skilled physician assistant.

Professionally, Daniel served as a PA-C at St. Luke's University Health Network, Bethlehem Campus, specializing in critical care medicine. His colleagues and patients respected him for his unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care. Daniel's work was not just a job; it was a calling. He approached each day with the same goal: to make a positive impact on the lives of those he treated.

Beyond his professional life, Daniel had a zest for the world around him. He enjoyed hiking, exploring the beauty of nature, and finding peace in the great outdoors with his best friend MJ. Music was another of Daniel's passions. He enjoyed listening to retro tunes and learning to play the guitar. Daniel's passion for medicine was more than a career; it was a reflection of his desire to contribute to the world meaningfully. His empathy and kindness shone through in every patient interaction, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Daniel's family, including many aunts, uncles, and cousins, will remember him for his generous heart, infectious smile, and the love he freely gave. His presence in their lives was a gift, and though his time with them was far too short, the memories they created will be treasured forever.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Daniel's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Physician Assistant Program at Lock Haven University, 10 Susquehanna Ave., DACC 314, Lock Haven, PA 17745. Checks may be made payable to the LHU Foundation with "PA Program" in the memo.

I will always remember the first time I met Dan in person. He had just moved into his apartment in Bethlehem. His agreement was finalized to begin his Fellowship and he was on his way to pick up his white coats. It was a beautiful day and he was walking down the hill by Lobby A with this big smile on his face. Throughout his fellowship and even when he joined our critical care team, he always had that big smile. That is how I will remember Dan. Smiling in the sunshine.

I will never forget that you were one of the people who saved my mom´s life a year ago during a rapid. When you were in rotation for the MICH, you would always should us a new pic of MJ and a funny story that you and her had experienced. You will be dearly missed and I pray that you are no longer hurting. Thank you for being kind! Prayers to your family during this time.

I first met Daniel when he was in middle school, and later when he was in a relationship with my granddaughter. He was a very special guy, always had a smile. His passing is a huge loss to all who knew him, and will always be remembered.

Dan and I have shared several of critical situations in medicine. Saving many of people´s lives but also helping other family´s morn. He was always compassionate towards others, and tried to make people laugh. His jokes always kept spirits up as well on difficult nights, and his laugh was infectious. Being in medicine it´s always hard to find a night that isn´t grim but I remember one night in particular I had just got my new puppy Luna, he and I along with other nurses began sharing photos and stories of our dogs. And gave me solid tips on what to expect with a new puppy. That night was a rare calm night where people can just talk about their lives. He was a good man and I, along with many others will miss him. My condolences and prayers to his family and loved ones.

I only remember him as a cute little boy, when we were younger. My heart goes out to his family. Sending prayers.
