Daniel "Danny" McNesby, 69 years old, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2025
following open heart surgery.
Danny was born on January 29, 1956 to Margaret and Joseph McNesby, and grew up
in Cleland Heights. He was raised in a close-knit family of 6 siblings who grew to
become cherished friends. He attended Richardson Park Elementary School and
graduated from Conrad High School, class of 1975, where he was a member of the
band and a manager of the football team. After high school, Danny worked for the
Delaware Department of Transportation, retiring in 2018. He always anxiously awaited
the upcoming weather forecast and family was sure to remind him of the extended
hours to be worked due to the weather. He was affectionately known as "DelDot Dan"
or "Mac" by friends at Defiance AA, which he frequented for many years.
Danny appreciated the simple things in life- a cold beer, watching the Phillies, and most
of all, he loved spending time with his family. Danny enjoyed family vacations at the
beach and frequenting Irish Eyes in Lewes DE, and recently traveled with his siblings
and godson, Michael Pat, to Clearwater, FL to watch the Phillies during spring training.
A nonconformist, Danny was a diehard Washington REDSKINS fan, recruiting his
brother, Michael, and nephew, Shawn, to be fans as well. Danny was a loving and
loyal brother along with being a gentle presence in the lives of his nieces and nephews.
Many knew Danny as the quiet, humble soul-often seen but not heard, slipping into
the background of photos and never one to seek the spotlight. He never wanted
attention on himself, but he took every opportunity to publicly tease his beloved sisters
with a mischievous smile. Danny shared an especially close bond with his sister, Trish,
and brother-in-law, Jay, as well as nephews, Brian and Jay. Danny's family will miss
his knowledge of sports and music, his witty jokes and laugh, and his ability to make
everyone feel welcome while in his company. He taught us all that love doesn't need
to be loud to be felt deeply.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joseph McNesby, his
brother Michael, sister-in-law Sharon, and brother-in-law John Bonk. He is survived by
his sisters Trish Milewski (Jay) and Teesie Bonk, brothers Joe and Jerry, as well as
long time sister-in-law Debbie. Danny also had a special bond with cousins Paul
McCullin and Mike Brady and longtime friend Al Grandell. He is also survived by nieces
and nephews, Kate Adams (Tom), Andy McNesby (Jen), Erin McNesby, Theresa
Martin (Jutt), Kristen McNesby, Mikey McNesby (Amber), Michael Pat Bonk, Shawn
Bonk (Meghan), Meghan Smith (Nick), Brian Milewski (Becky), and Jay Milewski
(Theresa), along with a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, Cedar &
Clayton Streets, Wilmington, on Thursday, June 26th, from 6:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church on Friday, June 27th, at
10:00 AM. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Margaret McNesby and Anna
McCullin Nursing Endowed Scholarship (Fund 169) at Delaware Tech. Donations may
be made to DTCC Educational Foundation, Office of the President, P.O. Box 897,
