Daniel Milnes

Daniel Milnes, age 73, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Nancy H. (Gavlik) Milnes with whom he enjoyed 23 years of marriage.
Dan was born and raised in the Acre neighborhood of Lowell, MA., and was the son of the late Lillian Milnes. A proud veteran, Dan served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. After his military service, he continued his education, graduating from Lowell Trade School and becoming an electrician. He built a successful career as an electrician, traveling the country with IBEW Local 103. He took great pride in the stories about the places he traveled to and the sites he helped build.
Daniel was a man of simple joys and strong friendships. He was an avid deep-sea fisherman and looked forward to playing cards and Sundays watching football with "Don and the gang," his close-knit group of friends. He cherished the camaraderie of his fellow veterans in the local veterans group run by Peg, meeting every other Wednesday for years. His faithful dog, Patches, was a constant companion and a source of happiness throughout many of his years.
One of Daniel's greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his grandchildren Nathan Carl, Ryan Carl, Andrew Carl, and Ella Carl. He shared many special memories with his dear friend Zack, a bricklayer and trusted companion through the years, whom he met while building the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
In addition to his loving wife Nancy H. (Gavlik) Milnes, Dan is survived by Michael Carl of Gardner, MA. And Alfred Carl and his wife Tracy Carl of Weare, NH., as well as his beloved grandchildren Nathan Carl, Ryan Carl, Andrew Carl, and Ella Carl. He also leaves behind extended family, fellow veterans, lifelong friends, and neighbors who will miss his humor, kindness, and loyal spirit.
A private funeral service will be held to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Daniel's name to the Humane Society of Greater Lowell or MSPCA at Nevins Farm.
