Daniel Thomas "Dan" Murphy ObituaryDaniel Thomas Murphy (Dan) Eden Prairie - Daniel Thomas Murphy of Eden Prairie passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family as the sun set on a beautiful autumn day. He was born and raised in Watertown, South Dakota, where he developed a deep sense of family and a love for all things outdoors.
Dan met his fun-loving bride, Teresa – the perfect partner-in-crime – and in their 43 years of marriage, they built a life full of laughter, love, and a little mischief. Dan was the epitome of a family man, never missing an opportunity to get involved with his kids' or granddaughters' events whether he was a coach, a referee, or an attentive fan. His legendary "Murphy Field" in the backyard was the perfect place for all kids to play, whether they were star athletes or new to the game. The backyard games were paused when the pheasant hunting season began. He loved "The Land" in South Dakota and the time he spent teaching his children and grandchildren the joy of the outdoors. Known for his competitiveness, Dan never gave anybody an easy victory at anything, be it Monopoly, golf, chess, hoops, or cards. The kids learned at a young age that there were no gimmes from him!
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Gen, and his mother-in-law, Marge Finley. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his three children – Joe (Alex), Tara (Zach), and Matt; his treasured granddaughters – Hadley, Molly, Kenzie, Madison, Hayden, and another soon-to-arrive granddaughter; his five brothers Tim (Patty), Denny (Peggy), Mick, Terry, and David (Maureen); his father-in-law, Joe Finley (another partner-in-crime); Teresa's siblings, their spouses, his nieces and nephews, his beloved dog, Tilly, and countless friends.
Dan's legacy is defined by his unwavering love for his family and friends, and the kindness he shared so freely. Being a true Irishman, he always had a story to tell (slightly embellished). His gentle soul and generosity will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 6th from 5-7 p.m. at Huber Funeral Home, in Excelsior. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen on Friday, November 7th at 11a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the Mass.
