Daniel James O'Brien, a devoted family man and proud Navy Veteran, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born March 13, 1936, in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of James O'Brien and Margaret (McMahon) O'Brien. In his early days, Daniel played in a local softball league and showcased his skills on the high school basketball team, specializing in the two-hand set shot. His love for sports extended to skiing at his grandparents' farm in Hinsdale during his childhood. He was a 1954 graduate of Bradford Area High School.

Daniel enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 and served his country with honor aboard the USS Ranger. Daniel served in the Navy until 1958 when he was honorably discharged. He then settled in Bradford, to start a family with his beloved wife, Sandra.

A dedicated salesman throughout his career, Daniel worked tirelessly in various roles, from delivering Bunny Bread to serving as a milkman for Bradco Milk Company and later as a Keebler salesman.

Beyond his professional life, Daniel had a passion for gardening that blossomed into an award-winning garden in Bradford. His garden became a local attraction, visited by numerous enthusiasts and clubs. He took great pride in his koi pond and the whimsical presence of garden gnomes.

An active member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Bradford, Daniel's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His involvement in the church community enriched the lives of those around him.

However, Daniel's most enduring legacy is his devotion to his wife, Sandra. Their marriage of over 60 years was a testament to a love that withstood the test of time. The passing of his beloved wife in 2020 deeply impacted Daniel, highlighting the profound connection they shared.

Surviving is one daughter, Susan (Jay) Koniak of Salamanca, NY; and three sons: Timothy (Nancy) O'Brien of Jamestown, NY, Thomas (Terrie) O'Brien of Bradford, and Daniel O'Brien of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Morgan (Amy) O'Brien, Taylor (Gina) O'Brien, Amanda (Randall) Emborsky, Megan (Randy) Dalaba, Emily Koniak, Timothy O'Brien, Jr., Kaitilin O'Brien, Michael (Madai) O'Brien, and Anna O'Brien; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Daniel James O'Brien leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and joy. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to be touched by his warmth, devotion, and kindness.

Family will receive friends on Saturday September 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jim Gutting as celebrant. Military Honors by the United States Navy and members Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Futures Rehabilitation Center.
