Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Service - SheboyganDaniel J. "Dan" Ognavic, 67, of Sheboygan, passed away at home on March 16, 2026. Born December 5, 1958, in Sheboygan, he was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Barbara Housey Ognavic.
He is survived by his brother, Steven Ognacevic (Francine); sisters, Bonnie Roerdink (Tom), Peggy Ognacevic (Lisa), Sally Burch (Scott), and Wendy Radtke; and his beloved dog, Paris.
Dan was a well-known Sheboygan musician who taught private lessons in violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano for over 45 years. He was the beloved director of the Golden Chordaliers choir and was an adjunct strings instructor at Lakeland University and at Lakeland University summer music camp. He served as an organist at many local churches, including First Congregational UCC, First United Lutheran Church, Zion Covenant, Grace UCC, and Hope Reformed. He was a past member of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra.
He performed regularly at the American Club, Lakeland University, the Plymouth Arts Center, many area nursing homes, and was a sought after musician for weddings and funerals. He accompanied countless students over the years at recitals and music festivals and provided musical accompaniment for Theater For Young Audiences. He was also the musical director and/or pit musician for many local musicals. Dan not only had perfect pitch, but could identify up to 14 random notes played simultaneously.
Known for his quick wit, Danny loved making people laugh. He enjoyed traveling, movies, and time with friends and family. Danny will be remembered as a fun-loving person who brought laughter to those around him and showed kindness and care to everyone he met. His talent, generosity, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial celebration of life gathering will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Zion Covenant Church, 1125 N. 6th Street, Sheboygan from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. with The Golden Chordaliers performing at 4:30 p.m.
