Daniel "Dan" Val Pankiewicz, aged 75, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, at his home in Exton, PA, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on February 14, 1949, in Trenton, NJ, to Joseph and Jane (Nyzio) Pankiewicz and grew up in Bordentown. A graduate of Bordentown High School and the NJ Institute of Technology, and long-time resident of Ewing, NJ, Dan worked for the NJ Department of Transportation as a civil engineer for over 40 years.
After retiring, the last several years of his life were spent traveling with his beloved wife of 49 years, Caren, (Callahan), fulfilling their dream of seeing the country from "Grammie's Bus," their RV. Caren kept a travel blog and emailed a lot of friends and family the results of their travels from the sandy shores of Myrtle Beach to the lakes of Michigan to the canyons and deserts of the Southwest.
Dan was an engineer by trade and by disposition. His hobbies leaned into that as well. He spent many years volunteering for NJ Odyssey of the Mind as a judge for the structure problem, where he always greatly enjoyed talking to and encouraging the competitors, many of whom were nascent engineers. Dan also loved sharing his love of sports with his children by coaching their teams and helping them practice in the backyard. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren by taking them camping, going on hikes in the woods, teaching them how to build campfires and catch frogs. And as an avid amateur woodworker he constructed many devices and furniture over the years starting with the outdoor screen porch he constructed on their home in Ewing to redoing and paneling the basement to many smaller tweaks to the RV.
Dan is survived by his wife, Caren; his brothers and their spouses, Joe Pankiewicz & Gail DeJony, Ron & Margy Pankiewicz, and Jim & Nancy Pankiewicz; his children and their spouses Nick & Sarah Pankiewicz and Lisa & Phil Allie; and his grandchildren Logan and Quentin Allie. A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks.
