Daniel Wayne Risner, 67, Passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at North Woods Village Memory Care in Mishawaka after a six-year battle with dementia.
Dan was born January 12, 1957, in Mishawaka, a son of L. Wade and Dorothy (Lynch) Risner. He played football for and graduated from Penn High School in 1975. Dan went on to play football at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. On July 7, 1979, in Mishawaka, he married the former Diane Wozny, who survives. Together they raised their three children in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, where Dan's work in the automotive industry spanned 39 years. In 2013, they returned to the Michiana area to be closer to their extended family, living first in Elkhart and then in South Bend. Dan's love for travel took him to places all over the world. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Michigan State Spartans and Detroit Tigers.
Dan was incredibly proud of his family, whom he loved dearly. Besides his wife Diane, Dan is survived by his children, Scott (Sandra) Risner of Baku, Azerbaijan, Christopher (Samantha) Risner of Seattle, WA and Kacy (Phillip) Place of Buchanan, MI, as well as his two grandchildren, Josie Place and Logan Daniel Risner. He is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Linda) Risner, Edwardsburg, MI, Debbie (Tom) Canfield, Elkhart, IN and Diane McMahan, Osceola, IN, brother-in-law David Wozny of Peoria, AZ, and his mother-in-law Doris Wozny of South Bend, IN. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Dan's wishes, there will be no services. His body has been donated to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Point Memory Care, North Woods Village Memory Care and Traditions Hospice for the loving care and support they have given to Dan and Diane over the past year. Memorial Contributions on Dan's behalf may be made to Traditions Health Hospice 3555 Park Place W Suite 100 Mishawaka, Indiana 46545.
