Daniel Rupar

Dan Rupar passed peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2016. He was born on January 22, 1963 in Menomonee Falls, Wi the son of the late Louis and Janet Rupar. He graduated from Menomonee Falls North in 1981, Ripon College in 1985, and University of Wisconsin Madison Law School in 1988. Dan was a respected corporate and estate planning attorney and served as the chair of the Trust & Estates Practice Group at Ruder Ware. He was instrumental in developing the firm's Fiduciary Services business. Many of his clients became family to him, and he was very proud to be part of the Ruder legacy. An avid cyclist, hiker, mountain climber and adventurous vacationer, Dan was always looking toward that next challenge. Some of his most memorable accomplishments include cycling Boston-Montreal-Boston in 24 hours, completing the Leadville 100, climbing Mount Whitney, Grand Tetons, the Grand Traverse and hiking/climbing half dome in Yosemite under 6 hours. Mount Rainer was next. A perfect day for Dan would be an epic activity during the day, and afterwards sharing a cold IPA, great food with great friends - a little Avett Brothers playing in background. Dan's strong, beautiful spirit continues in his two daughters Daley and Shaefer, and his loving wife, Deb. He also leaves his bothers Pat, his wife, Liz and their two children Brooks and Kitt, Paul Rupar and family and the late David Rupar and many other nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Dan. Dan was committed to the Wausau community and believed in the value of the Woodson YMCA. Dan was proud to serve on the YMCA board for 20 years as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president. He was recently awarded the YMCA lifetime achievement award. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the YMCA Community Partners to provide scholarships to local families so all can have access to the YMCA. The family would like to thank the many people who have reached out and helped us through this difficult time. A special thank you to our angels on earth Anthony and Brenda Gerlach and Erik and Margaret Anderson who showed what true friendship is about. Eileen Goggins-Schultz, whose spiritual guidance and treatments led Dan to a deeper understanding of his spiritual journey. Dan would want to remind everyone to say I Love You to all those special people in your life. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 12:00 pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 229 South 28th Avenue, Wausau. The Rev. Matthew Marshall will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, February 5, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Brainard Funeral Home – Wausau Chapel, 522 Adams Street, Wausau. Condolences may be given at www.brainardfuneral.com.
