Daniel Dale Russell

Daniel Dale Russell, 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio Originally from Oakland City entered into rest on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
Daniel was born on June 26, 1955, in Washington, Indiana.
Daniel was a graduate of Waldo J. Wood Memorial High School Class of 1973. He attended Oakland City College before he joined the United States Army.
Daniel enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973. He saw combat in the Persian Gulf War in the 1990's. He had a distinguished military career that earned him the nickname "Ranger Russell" and he also was a jump master with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was part of the 23rd Chemical Brigade and went to Command Sergeant Major Academy in 1993, achieving the rank. Daniel earned numerous medals and meritorious service awards including 2-Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal just to name a few. Daniel retired from active duty in 2003 serving nearly 30 years in the United States Army.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post #534 VFW #4369.
Daniel enjoyed spending time with his dad hunting and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed playing football and basketball in high school and continued following those sports throughout his life, especially college basketball and football.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Victoria Russell; daughter, Margaret Kathleen Truitt; stepdaughter, Lauren Roper; mother, Margaret Alberta Russell - Morris; sister, Connie Sue Russell; and his most loved lab "Ranger Buddy".
Daniel is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Duane Russell and sister, Carolyn Russell.
Visitation for Daniel Dale Russell will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. (Central Time) at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel. The funeral service begins at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jason Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery in Winslow, Indiana.
