Daniel B. Singleton "Dan" was born April 30, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, to Sarah Elizabeth Swan (Singleton) and Charles Dittimus.
He attended Philadelphia Public Schools. He graduated from Simon Gratz High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Army. Dan married his childhood sweetheart Kay "Carolyn. With the support of Carolyn and their three children, he served thirty years in the United States Army,
Dan's first European tour of service was in West Germany from 1956 to 1959. He was later stationed at Fort Meade, MD, and Fort Benning, GA, before serving with the First Signal Brigade in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
From 1967 to 1970, Dan served a second European tour in Landstuhl, Germany. In 1971, he graduated from the United States Army Signal Corps, Fort. Monmouth, New Jersey. From 1975 to 1976 he was a Signal Corps instructor at Fort Monmouth. In
1977-1980 Dan served a third tour in Augsburg, Germany. Dan retired from Fort. Monmouth in August of 1985. After retirement, he was a contractor for the Department
of Defense for 23 years.
Dan's awards and decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, Nine Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the Federal Republic of Germany Marksmanship Award.
Dan has been affiliated with the Masonic order since 1977. He was a 33rd-degree Mason, Past Worshipful Master of Fidelity Lodge # 42, Past Potentate of Mahja Temple #47, and Past Worthy Patron of Golden Link #24.
Dan was also an avid sports enthusiast. He played baseball and basketball on various Army teams and enjoyed Monday morning quarterbacking and debating sports teams with his grandsons.
Dan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. With all his life accomplishments, there was nothing more important to him than his family, and he was important to them. He loved his family tremendously. He was the glue that kept them all together.
Dan was predeceased by his infant son Donald Singleton, his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Swan (Singleton), his father Charles Dittimus, and his sister, Constance Adger (Swan.)
He is survived by his wife, Kay Carolyn (Mason), Neptune, NJ, two Sisters, Sara Patricia Swan and Mary Ann Holmes (Charles) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son Daniel Singleton,
Los Angeles, California, and two daughters Angela Robertson Tracey, (S.O.), Long Branch, NJ, and Andrea "Kim" Cummings (Gary), Eatontown, NJ. Seven grandchildren, Antoinette Navarro, James Harper, Jr (Samanth, S.O), Emanuel Navarro (Catherine), Jonathan Robertson (Ariana), Matthew Robertson, Sarah and Joshua Bean, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and Nephews, friends and specials friends Ruth Gaye and Bro. David Cooper.
