Daniel Skora Obituary

Daniel Albert Skora

November 15, 1975 - July 3, 2025

It is with regret that the family of Daniel Albert Skora announces his passing on July 3, 2025. Known as Dan or Danny, he was born on November 15, 1975, to Mary and Ed Skora of Bristol, where he spent most of his life.

Named after his grandfathers, Dan was third in birth order with two older sisters. When he was five, he was blessed with a younger sibling, however, upon her arrival, requested she be returned for a boy. Three years later, he got the brother he had been asking for.

From the time Dan was little, he was a gadget guy, intrigued by taking apart items, identifying how they worked and at times struggling to put them back together, much to the chagrin of his mother. As a young man, Danny was involved in 4H, showing chickens, pigs and participated in rocketry.

Danny graduated from Westosha Central High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp Pendelton, Calif. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he was trained as a mechanic, specifically working on amphibious combat vehicles. He also earned a rifle marksman badge during Basic Training.

Dan loved being outside and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He was fascinated by nature, enjoyed finding unique rocks, planting and caring for trees and taking care of the property where he lived with his father. In recent years, he had learned the craft of tapping trees for maple syrup, a craft he needed more time to truly perfect, as he also practiced the art of burning syrup.

Dan enjoyed listening to hard rock music, was a Packers fan, enjoyed reading mystery and crime novels and gave his time and talents to help others. He was an integral part of his mother's care team, particularly during her last months. A smart guy, he was often tasked with identifying the best strategy in which to tackle home projects.

Dan is survived by his father, Ed; siblings, Rose, Teresa, Ellen (Joe) Goratowski and Joe (Julie); nieces and nephews, James & Elizabeth Cater, Lucas & Jayden Goratowski and Bre, Troy & Antoine Skora; his extended family as well as special friend Jenny Kozak. Those who went before Danny include his mom, Mary Skora, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and his dog Henry.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a prayer service commencing at 6 p.m., at Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main Street, Antioch Ill. Those attending are encouraged to dress as Danny would have – casual dress, flannels and/or Packers attire.

While grappling with this loss, the family felt it fitting to end by sharing a Gratitude List that Dan wrote: good friends, family, his dog, the sunshine, the ability to help others, the ability to work, his health and being alive.
