Father Dan was my priest at Princeton during my undergrad years there in the '90s.
Growing up in a rough-around-the-edges and fairly "ethnic" Eastern Orthodox community in PA, at the little chapel in Murray-Dodge was the first time I had ever participated in Divine Liturgy in English. My first confession was with Fr Dan as well, probably at age 18 or 19?
Fairly certain that I would not still be a practicing Orthodox Christian today - and my life would be so different - were it not for Fr Dan's influence, guidance, and encouragement.
I miss the simplicity of those days. Fr. Dan and Mat. Tassie set an example more than they may realize.

On behalf of the staff and former stufents of Moscow School #84, who were participants of the Students Exchange Program in the 1990-s, I wish to say that Father Dan was doing his best to establish true, friendly and sincere relations between our school and PDS. He was a wonderful teacher and the best possible guide, advisor and friend for all of us!
We will always remember him, his wisdom, his kindness, his smile and his unforgettable sence of humour!
We love you, Father Dan!

I met Daniel Skvir around 1969 or 1970 as my Russian teacher at PDS. I believe this was Dan Skvir´s first role in his long professional relationship with the recently constituted PDS. He took over as Russian teacher in the middle of the academic year upon the sudden and unexpected death of his predecessor. I´m certain all this must have been a challenge. With a humble, firm, methodical and patient demeanor, he quickly assessed his students´ needs - there was clearly no teacher available to brief him - he did what was needed brilliantly and in short order won over all of PDS´s Russian students. He also won over just about everyone. Over the ensuing half century, he grew with PDS, wore many hats, led PDS as it maintained its excellence, filling the role of Director of Admissions when needed as well as serving as a musical and spiritual presence. Over the years when we ran into one another at PDS and wherever, Dan never forgot me and greeted me with enthusiasm and always asked how I was doing. He will be missed. Condolences to Tassie Skvir and the Skvir family.

Dear Tass, Nika, and Kyra,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Dan´s passing and your loss. As a close friend and dorm mate of Dan and Chuck Peischl in my junior and senior years, I valued our friendship and admired his drive to follow in his father´ footsteps and become a Russian Orthodox Priest. He became much more than that. I was particularly impressed by his homily at the memorial for our classmates in the Princeton Chapel at our 50th or 55th Class Reunion. It was so mature, thoughtful, and moving. It touched me deeply. He was truly blessed, and we were blessed to have known him.

Tassie: Sally and I will always remember the countless basketball games Dan and you shared with us at Princeton as well as many shared meals. We have been very fortunate to have you nearby us now for decades, both in Princeton and, more recently, in Pennington.
Our arms are folded around all your family in this time of grief for Dan. You and your daughters were so blessed to have the opportunity to be together with Dan as he passed. It is a special coincidence that Nika and our Liz were able to spend some tome together in Maui earlier this month and Sally and I feel even closer to Dan as we stopped by your house just a few days before Dan's hospitalization. He remained so clear-headed.
Our love, Mark and Sally

Dear Tassie, I´ve just now heard of Dan´s death. I am at a loss for words to express my shock and sorrow, but I wanted to reach out to you say how much you and Dan have meant to me over the many years. I have felt a part of your lives, and blessed magnificently with the beauty and warmth of your wedding, one of the finest moments and memories of my life.
I send condolence to you and all your family, with loving regards.
